Why French tourists should visit Nicaragua

June 26, 2014

Nicaragua’s plentiful natural wonders and fascinating culture are the reasons why tourists from all over the world have decided to visit the country. Who wouldn’t love the possibility of surfing in the Pacific Ocean one day and sunbathing in the Caribbean Sea the next? Or sandsurfing down an active volcano? Or even swimming in a crater lagoon in a volcano in the middle of an island in the middle of a lake? (Yes, we have that in Nicaragua).

But what does the country offer specifically to French tourists?

According to National Geographic, the very special reason why all French tourists should visit Nicaragua is our traditional beverage made of cocoa and corn flour: Pinolillo.

In a six-page spread article titled “Nicaragua: Operation Cocoa!”, recently published by National Geographic’s French edition, the country is highlighted for its longtime cocoa production history and the immense variety of products we process from cocoa.

The article depicts a visit to a cocoa producing ranch in Nandaime—67 km southeast from the country’s capital, in which a great variety of cocoa-based products are processed, among them the Nicaraguan traditional beverage Pinolillo, which in their words, is truly delicious and very similar to a French aromatic beverage known as Banania, also made of cocoa, and plantain flour, cereals, honey and sugar.

So there you have it, yet another reason to venture into Nicaragua in 2014.
