Have you been to Nicaragua yet? Michael Douglas and Morgan Freeman have, just to mention a few of the celebrities that have visited the country recently. With all that Nicaragua offers, it has become the perfect vacation destination for all type of tourists, and with the opening of its first luxury five-star hotel, it might just become the new A-list getaway hotspot of the region.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Nicaragua is coming up the ranks as a serious contender to Mexico and Costa Rica as an A-list getaway spot thanks to the allure of the recently opened Mukul, the country's first five-star hotel.” Mukul is a US$250-million-hotel that opened last year, located along the country’s Emerald Coast in the Pacific, amidst pristine jungles, untouched beaches and great surfing.
Nicaragua’s Mukul also featured in Condé Nast Traveler’s 2014 Hot List of Best New Beach Hotels, which selected five hotels based on their beauty and their views over some of the most glorious stretches of coastline in the world. According to them, Mukul’s greatest feature is the sense of discretion that prevails: “Mukul means secret in Tzotzil, a Mayan language, and indeed everything from the subtle service to the privacy-ensuring sight lines delivers beautifully on that promise.”
The 37-room boutique resort is considered a real gem thanks to its oceanfront villas, 18-hole golf course designed by David McLay Kidd, and fine dining and hiking trails, where monkeys, sloths and iguanas are part of the natural décor. Mukul also offers a unique spa experience, named the “Best Spa” in 2013 by the luxury travel network Virtuoso: rather than having one large building, there are six private casitas (each with a swimming pool) to enjoy a selection of spa treatments in a lavish, secluded treatment area.
