AJEGROUP expands operations in Nicaragua

Aug. 26, 2011 - AJEGROUP, a multinational Peruvian company that distributes beverages, recently announced to expand its operations in Nicaragua by reinvesting approximately US$25 million to further distribute its product in the Nicaraguan market.

The company’s investment plan will include expanding distribution and marketing of its soda beverage brand, Big Cola, with the aim of placing the product beyond department capitals and urban areas.

Currently, AJEGROUP has generated approximately 300 direct jobs and 150 indirect jobs in the country; however, its expansion plan will increase direct jobs to almost 600.

Wenceslao Montoya Alemán, Commercial Director of AJEGROUP, commented that the company initially began conversations with PRONicaragua, the official investment promotion agency of Nicaragua, in order to increase business investment locally.

“In addition to our already established market in the country, we found a degree of receptiveness in Nicaragua that determined us to continue investing”, commented Wenceslao Montoya. He added, “we expect to complete our investment program in 2011”.

AJEGROUP began operations in Nicaragua in 2005, when the beverage brand Big Cola entered the country after discovering its potential for soft drinks. Its operations had an initial investment of approximately US$1 million.

This multinational enterprise, currently present in 20 countries, owns a holding in Spain. Additionally, the company owns 22 factories, 120 fulfillment centers and has a labor force of 20,000 employees worldwide. Its infrastructure enables reaching more than one million markets, allowing selling up to three billion liters of beverages such as beer, sport drinks, including energetic and isotonic beverages, water, juices and tea.
