According to the Global Creativity Index, published by the Martin Prosperity Institute, housed at the University of Toronto, Nicaragua is the 32nd most creative country in the world, right after South Korea.
The study ranks Nicaragua as the most creative country in the Central American region even before Costa Rica (36), Panamá (56), Guatemala (64) and El Salvador (109).
According to Professor Richard Florida, one of the study’s researchers, “a growing body of research finds that openness to diversity spurs economic development while homogeneity stunts economic growth. Florida also says that, “places that are open to new ideas tend to attract creative people from around the globe that provide and edge in generating the innovations and startup companies that create new industries”.
The most creative country is Australia, followed by the United States, New Zealand, Canada, Denmark and Finland, Iceland, Singapore and the Netherlands.
The Global Creativity Index is based on the 3Ts of economic development: talent (share of adults with higher education), technology (in¬vestment, innovation and patents), and tolerance (based on surveys of attitudes toward ethnic and racial minorities and gay and lesbian people). The index rates and ranks 139 nations worldwide on each of these dimensions.
