A trade mission comprised of 10 Mexican companies arrived in Nicaragua on Monday to explore business opportunities in the country’s mining industry. ProMexico and the Mining cluster of Zacatecas (Clusmin, for its Spanish acronym), along with PRONicaragua and the Nicaraguan Chamber of Mines (CAMINIC, for its Spanish acronym) organized the event. The delegation will be in the country until April the 29th.
The export offer of the Mexican delegation includes equipment for subterranean mining, concrete additives, industrial machinery, consultancy services, tailings dam engineering, mining anchors, cement cartridges, mining engineering, operation and maintenance of rig equipment, among others.
Sergio Rios, President of CAMINIC highlighted the chamber’s objective of promoting a safe and responsible mining industry, allowing companies to learn about the country’s high quality products and services that could improve their productivity. He also mentioned that the country is interested in developing a mining cluster in order to improve the life of the community where these companies are established.
The three-day program organized for the delegation includes a presentation on Nicaragua’s investment opportunities in the mining sector, one-on-one business meetings with local companies and a visit to La Libertad mine property of B2Gold located in Chontales, Nicaragua.
In 2014, gold was Nicaragua’s third export product, representing 15 percent of the country’s export of goods. Total gold production during this year amounted to 437 troy ounces, representing an increase of 176 percent since 2007, while exports reached US$386 million.
