In the framework of the “Ground Up: Coffee and Cocoa Initiative” program, the Lutheran World Relief is organizing the contest “Cocoa of Excellence Nicaragua 2014” with the objective of promoting the origins of high quality cocoa in Nicaragua. This contest will be organized in collaboration with the Cocoa of Excellence program and counts with the participation of international judges affiliated to it.
All Nicaraguan cocoa producers and organizations are invited to participate in this contest by sending samples of fermented and dried cocoa that represents geographical and genetic origins of their production zones, complying with the procedures indicated in the Participation Technical Guide in “Cocoa of Excellence Nicaragua 2014”.
Each sample has to be of at least 8 kg. and sent by September 19, 2014 at the latest, to the Lutheran World Relief office in Managua. (Tel.: 2277 4748).
The winners of this contest will be announced on September 29, 2014. The best three samples will be selected and US$700 will be awarded to the first place, US$500 to the second place, and US$300 to the third place. Additionally, the winners of this national competition will participate in the International Cocoa Awards to be celebrated in 2015 during the Salon Du Chocolat in Paris.
PRONicaragua, the investment and export promotion agency of the country, is supporting this initiative to encourage the participation of national producers and contribute to the strengthening of the cocoa sector of the country.
