Young Nicaraguans receive training to enter the BPO industry

Feb. 19 2014

Nicaragua is currently implementing a pilot project focused on strengthening the English and labor skills of the Nicaraguan young human talent to ease their access to high-quality employment in the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry. The project called “Capacity Building Program” is promoted by the National Free Zones Commission (CNZF, for its acronym in Spanish), with the support of the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF, member of the IDB Group) and a group of BPO companies: Sitel, Stream Global and Accedo Technologies.

With an investment of approximately US$1.1 million, the project is addressed to young Nicaraguans between 18 and 35 years, with at least a high school diploma, and intermediate or advanced English level. This project is aimed to strengthen and increase the human talent available for this industry and contribute to its sustainable development.

Some of the country’s English institutes are taking part in the project by providing the BPO training courses, among them: Keiser University International Language Institute, Bluefields Indian & Caribbean University, Centro Cultural Nicaragüense Norteamericano, Universidad Americana, Universidad Centroamericana, and Universidad Thomas More. The BPO companies affiliated to the project will prioritize these courses’ graduates in their recruitment processes.

Furthermore, the project offers partial or full funding opportunities to families in need, through the Banco de Producción (BANPRO, for its acronym in Spanish). Applicants must meet all selection criteria to get this loan, which they will start to pay once hired by one of the BPO companies of the project.

Not only has the outsourcing services industry widely spread in Nicaragua, but it has also attracted international attention. The Tholons Top 100 Outsourcing Destinations worldwide includes Nicaragua’s capital, Managua, in the 87th position.

To be part of this project, candidates can approach the English institutes listed above or write to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
