PRONicaragua meets with the Danish-Nicaraguan Chamber of Commerce

Published by PRLog

April 4, 2011 - PRONicaragua, the official investment promotion agency of Nicaragua, and the Danish-Nicaraguan Chamber of Commerce (DANCHAM) conducted their first meeting to discuss mechanisms in which both institutions can work together to promote investment opportunities in Nicaragua, especially among Danish companies.

The meeting was presided by General Álvaro Baltodano, Presidential Delegate for Investments; Marcela Castillo, Investment Promotion Director of PRONicaragua; and representatives of DANCHAM.

General Baltodano highlighted the international attention Nicaragua has been capturing as an investment destination due to its preferential market access, government support to investment projects, and its many fiscal incentives. Some of the most prestigious international companies already operating in the country include Brazilian Footwear manufacturer Schmidt Irmaos, German autowire harnesses manufacturer Draexlmaier, renowned BPO company Sitel, and U.S. geothermal energy generator Ram Power.

The purpose of DANCHAM is to assist Danish commercial activities in Nicaragua, by creating a network with Danish and Nicaraguan companies, institutions and other stakeholders. Danish businessmen that attended the meeting discussed their experience investing in Nicaragua, and evaluated the country’s opportunities and challenges, for which PRONicaragua offered its aftercare services in order to address these issues.

There are over 40 Danish companies operating in Nicaragua, among them Just Fair in coffee trading, Maersk Sealand in shipping and freight, EMD International in wind energy and consultancy, Ingemann Foods in premium honey production, 1000 Chairs in certified wood furniture, and Organic Co. in textiles and garments.

This meeting was the first step in establishing a future cooperation agreement between DANCHAM and PRONicaragua, with the support of the Danish Embassy in Nicaragua.
